Music and Emotions

Chris will be joined this morning by neuropsychologist Dr Catherine Loveday, to explore the relationship between the human brain, memory and music.

Neuropsychologist Dr Catherine Loveday will be with Chris to explore the relationship between music and human emotions.

Dr Loveday says, "Music has the most extraordinary power to influence our emotions - while one song can move us to tears or lure is into love, another can make us want to jump up and dance."

She also says, "Music has the capacity to stimulate all the brain's emotion circuits. In fact, the right song can trigger the same brain response as eating chocolate, going for a run, or taking recreational drugs."

Also, Chris will ask listeners to suggest a song which evoke their emotions for his regular 5.15 request. Every weekday morning Chris plays a 'Worksong'.

This morning he will play a Worksong from 2013, asking listeners to remember what they were doing when those songs were released.
