Crucial White Stripes

The Don's selections cross time, space and genre. His Crucial Vinyl this week is De Stijl, released by the White Stripes in 2000.

The Don's selections cross time, space and genre. Each week, as well as blending his favourite new music with classics from the UK, USA, Jamaica, Africa and way beyond, he highlights a piece of Crucial Vinyl - a cherished album from his own collection. This week it's De Stijl, released by the White Stripes in 2000.

Don says, "Got to thank Heavenly Records boss Jeff Barrett for turning me on to this dynamic duo from Detroit at the turn of the century. They immediately caught my attention, with their punky take on the blues that, to my ears, echoed early Kinks and Led Zeppelin. It was a refreshingly stripped-down guitar-driven sound that seemed at odds with everything else that was going on at the time.".
