'My Dad, the Peace Deal And Me' - 30 years on Patrick Kielty reflects on the murder of his father
'My Dad, the Peace Deal And Me' - 30 years on Patrick Kielty reflects on the murder of his father.
Patrick Kielty has enjoyed a long career in TV, radio and stand-up comedy making his name with routines that met the violence and sectarianism of the Troubles head on. Paddy's father Jack, was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries in 1988 when he was just 16. Now, 20 years after the Good Friday Agreement, Paddy has returned to this subject with a documentary "My Dad, the Peace Deal And Me".
Also on the programme, Belfast Telegraph are reporting today that there could be a possible SDLP merger with Fianna F谩il. SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has refused to rule out "a realignment in Irish politics" that would see his party standing aside and Fianna F谩il organising in Northern Ireland. Senior SDLP sources told the Belfast Telegraph that around 80 per cent of the party supported it "leaving the stage" to make way for Fianna F谩il. Vinny got the views of commentator Jude Collins and commentator and former SDLP SPAD Brendan Mulgrew.
Plus, DUP are facing criticism again following another party member's social media activity. MLA Maurice Bradley had retweeted a message which called London Mayor Sadiq Khan 'the enemy within'. This comes just days after Ian Paisley apologised over a retweet of columnist Katie Hopkins. Vinny got reaction from UUP MLA Mike Nesbitt.
And, just what is happening in Gaza? On Friday, 18 people died and hundreds more were injured after Israeli forces fired on what they claimed were rioters and insurgents. As always, in that region, there many different accounts as to what constitutes truth. Vinny spoke to Danny Yatom, a former director of Mossad, Israel's National Intelligence Agency, and journalist and author specialising in Palestine and Israel - Ben White.
