Show us the money - the missing years in the political donations row

Donations to political parties in Northern Ireland will soon be made public. Yesterday MPs voted to approve a statutory order providing greater transparency on party funding.

Donations to political parties in Northern Ireland will soon be made public. Yesterday MPs voted to approve a statutory order providing greater transparency on party funding. But not everyone is happy. The government set July last year as the date after which all donations and loans of more than 拢7,500 should be made public. The opposition parties argued it should have been backdated to 2014. It means no details of any donations made during the EU referendum campaign of 2016 will be made public. That includes a controversial 拢435,000 donation to the DUP from a group of pro-union business people called the Constitutional Research Council. Stephen got the views of Alliance MLA David Ford, Kevin Maguire from the Daily Mirror and Allison Morris from the Irish News.

Also on the programme, what do you hope for when you send your kids to school? That they'll be given a good education and also that they'll learn about becoming upright citizens, paying their dues to society, that sort of thing - that's a reasonable hope. So wouldn't you expect that all schools would play their part by paying the proper daily rates to their substitute teachers? It seems that some schools aren't doing that and paying well, well below the going rate. Stephen spoke to Justin McCamphill from the teachers' union NASUWT and it's threatening to name and shame the schools.
