Ursula and Fiona: I Never Got To Know Him
As part of Listening Month, Conor McKay introduces real-life conversations from around NI. Ursula and Fiona often think about a brother who was killed when they were very young.
It can be difficult to talk about a brother you never knew. Ursula was only six weeks old when her brother Jim was killed. He had served time for planting a bomb and IRA membership. Then, in 1976, just six days after he was released from jail, he was shot by a British Soldier while travelling on a bus - the soldier served time for manslaughter. Her sister Fiona does remember Jim, she was just seven when he died. All these years later, they still think about him, but they both want life to move on, for the past to be the past, for their children to know a better, more peaceful world.
