Independent Venue Week (IVW) returns for its 5th year and, to celebrate, Steve Lamacq tours five locations around the UK and shines a light on the alternative music scene in each place, highlighting the grassroots music venues that have become the bedrock of the local area.
This year, Steve will be broadcasting from Guildford, Leicester, Hebden Bridge, Liverpool and - tonight - he kicks off the week in Stowmarket, broadcasting from The John Peel Centre. Sybil Bell, the founder of Independent Venue Week, will be talking to Steve about why she set up this celebration of local venues and there'll be a session from a local 成人快手 Music Introducing artist.
Founded in 2014 as a way to celebrate the heroes that own and run small venues all across the country, Independent Venue Week has grown massively in five years. Starting out with just 17 venues in 2014, it has grown this year with almost 200 venues already signed up. The project will run from Monday 29th January - Sunday 4th February 18.
