Farming Today This Week: Farm diversification

Nearly two thirds of UK farmers have diversified their businesses. Charlotte Smith finds out about some of the additional ways of making money - from solar panels to green burials.

Almost two thirds of farmers in the UK have diversified their businesses and now have an additional enterprise on the farm. From running farmhouse B&Bs to producing green energy, there are a multitude of ways in which farmers can make money through activities other than traditional agriculture. In this programme Charlotte Smith is at Manor Farm near Corsham in Wiltshire to meet the Barton family, who have taken diversification to a whole new level. They have a clothing store, an animal feed business, solar panels, barn conversions, a shooting simulator and even an airstrip. Charlotte finds out how they went from 700 acres of arable land back in the 1970s to the multi-faceted operation they run today.

Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Emma Campbell.
