Brian and Pat: Life with the Showbands
As part of Listening Month, Conor McKay introduces compelling real-life conversations from around Northern Ireland. Brian and Pat recall the heyday of the Omagh Panto in the 1950s.
Brian and Pat have been friends since they were boys growing up in Omagh. Brian would became a showband star in the 60s, one of the highest paid entertainers in Ireland. He even toured America, where music star Chet Atkins asked him to go solo. His best friend Pat Chesters was (and is) football mad. He drives from Omagh to see Derry City play every single week, he never misses. Together they remember the good old days of the Omagh panto, and life on the road.
