There's a surprise in store for Elizabeth, and the deception takes a toll on Pip.

Pip has told her parents that she's picked up a bug, but knows the excuse won't work for long. If only the pregnancy had happened when she was living at Lower Loxley - she can't help feeling that Jill suspects something. Elizabeth warns Pip that Jill didn't approve of her own abortion. Later, Pip and David discuss the milking parlour refurbishment. When David proposes a visit to a parlour on Friday Pip lies about why she'll be busy. Afterwards, Jill visits Pip at Rickyard, to see if she needs anything. Pip insists that she doesn't, but the strain of lying to her family is starting to show.

At Lower Loxley Lily and Freddie celebrate their eighteenth birthday. Elizabeth reveals that she visited the bank last week, and collected some very special presents from the vault. When the twins were little she and Nigel picked out gifts for when they turned eighteen. Lily gets a Gwen John, and Freddie a diamond and emerald ring. They wish Nigel was here to celebrate with them. Lily and Freddie take Elizabeth to the skating rink. They make her to take a proper look at everything she has achieved with 'Deck the Hall'. She should be proud of herself for creating something that brings so much joy, while also filling the role of mother and father.
