Claims of drugs dealt outside school gates - just how bad is the drugs problem in NI?
Claims of drugs dealt outside school gates - Stephen asks PSNI detective chief superintendent Tim Mairs just how bad is the drugs problem in NI.
Yesterday we heard from a grieving father who lost his son to drugs a year ago and was holding a service to raise awareness for his 'one pill can kill' campaign. William Burns's son Jamie died after taking an ecstasy tablet. That prompted callers to ring in and say that kids are being targeted by drug dealers at schools and today on the front page of the Belfast Telegraph is the story of how a shopper found drug syringes in the toilets of CastleCourt shopping centre. So just how bad is the drugs problem in Northern Ireland? Stephen spoke to Detective Chief Superintendent Tim Mairs, Head of the PSNI's organised crime branch.
Also on the programme, 30 trade unions here are launching a campaign ahead of the budget calling for the scrapping of the one per cent pay cap, and better terms for low-paid workers and those on zero-hours contracts. They say that while the unemployment rate is falling, salaries for many workers are still extremely poor. Bumper Graham from the Trade Union NIPSA and businessman and NI Conservative Frank Shivers debate.
And, more controversy from Jeremy Clarkson. The former Top Gear star has told the Sunday Times he doesn't think that bicycles and buses should be sharing the road. Let's be clear, this interview is PR for Clarkson's new TV series. But has he a point when it comes to cyclists and buses sharing bus lanes? Stephen gets the views of cyclist Malachi O'Doherty and commentator Lata Sharma.
