What is it about the Welsh and tents? Gareth Gwynn spends the night at a glampsite near Hay before heading to the Brecon Beacons for the ultimate in simple camping experiences.

The Welsh love to camp. The Welsh have always loved to camp.
Or have they? Gareth Gwynn's not so sure, and he's packing his own canvas pop-up and gas stove to find out where the dividing line comes between the dreams of pitching under the stars on the dunes of Gower or Barmouth and the realities of soggy nights at municipal campsites.

Over two weeks Gareth rekindles his own childhood experiences, and also those of his grandfather whose bicycle trips to camp at Llangollen in the 1930s seem the very essence of reconnecting with nature on the ultimate simple holiday.

This week, the luxury experience as we spend a night amongst the geodomes of a glamping company just outside Hay-on-Wye. And the search for authenticity also takes us into the hills around Presteigne where a unique project offers Somalis living in Wales a chance to reconnect with their culture.
