Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky was born on 7th May 1840, and died on November 6th 1893. He is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated classical musicians in the world. There have been countless books and articles written about him and yet even today, Peter's life and death are subject to controversy and question. It's claimed he was a tortured artist, wracked with guilt about his homosexuality; that he financially bankrupted a wealthy woman who was obsessed with him; and that at the age of only 53, to avoid a Russian Imperial scandal, he was compelled by a mysterious 'court of honour' to commit suicide. In this evening's concert, actor Michael Maloney and the 成人快手 Concert orchestra, conducted by Michael England, explore the life and music of the great composer. Including his famous Romeo and Juliet Fantasie Overture; music from his crowd pleasing ballets Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker; and movements from his great Symphonies 1, 4 and 6.
