Wilko Johnson
The iconic Wilko Johnson welcomes Johnnie into his home to remember a turbulent 1970s with Dr Feelgood.
The iconic Wilko Johnson welcomes Johnnie into his home to remember a turbulent 1970s with Dr Feelgood.
Formed in 1971, Dr Feelgood were a band you just had to see live - dominated by strutting Wilko's stage presence and unique chop chord guitar playing. His influence was felt in bands up and down the country, and later in the emergent punk revolution (Joe Strummer of The Clash bought a Telecaster guitar after seeing Wilko play live). Wilko enjoyed four successful albums with Dr Feelgood, before their split in 1977. He went on to form The Wilko Johnson Band, and The Solid Senders, before he joined Ian Dury's band The Blockheads, in 1980.
In 2012, Wilko was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, but despite the doctors' worst predictions he continued to perform and in 2013, Wilko announced that following a round of life-saving surgery, he was cancer-free. He'll be talking to Johnnie about his recovery, and why there's still life in the old dog yet.
Also on the show, Johnnie digs out some of the best of the 成人快手 archive, and another listener helps to add a classic seven-inch single into Johnnie's Jukebox.
