Thriving in 2017

Caz Graham is at an arable farm in Oxfordshire to find out how farmers can thrive in 2017, with so much uncertainty in the industry. She meets James Price who's farm has adapted and changed to stay profitable over its 70 year history. He says diversification, knowing what the consumer wants, and caring for your soil is the way to stay ahead. Part of his farm is a disused airfield where he stores organic compost, rents the concrete standing as a car park, and conducts field-scale trials for public and private organisations.
Caz's visit comes at the end of a week where two major farming conferences have taken place in Oxford - bringing together people from all aspects of the industry to network and share ideas.
We also hear from the Ecological Land Cooperative which is running a project in Devon renting smallholdings to organic farmily farmers to show that small can also be profitable; and two Scottish farmers who've adapted how they farm in the Highlands to supply what the consumer wants.
