Steve Lamacq celebrates the motivational power of music and the greatest running tracks as the 2016 Olympics get underway in Rio.

At midnight, the Games of the 16th Olympiad begin with the Opening Ceremony in Rio. To mark this great sporting occasion, 6 Music is celebrating the motivational power of music and the greatest running tracks, from across the years and genres.

Over the next fortnight, we'll find out which tunes propel Team GB's Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Adam Gemili, and Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell to victory. Plus, we'll hear from sporty stars of 6 Music and the 成人快手.

Steve launches 6 Music's running season with sports psychologist Dr Costas Karageorghis explaining how music can enhance performance, and why some tunes really resonate with runners.

Dr Karageorghis has shared some of his favourite running tunes, to create a 成人快手 Playlist that will take you from mental preparation, through low, medium and high intensity activity, to cool down.

Over the next fortnight, we're inviting listeners to give their legs, and ears, the ultimate workout by joining 成人快手 6 Music's Running Challenge. Listen to the playlist, share your own favourite running tunes, and run 6 kilometres with 6 Music.

This will culminate in another musical World Cup knockout. After shortlisting 16 of your standout running tracks, Steve will declare a champion on Friday 19th August.
