More about the programme:

Phil Rickman engages with the past with a selection of some of the best in recent historical fiction.

Andrew Taylor’s The Ashes of London is set in the aftermath of the Great Fire of London, where  the scene for much of the action is in and around St Paul’s Cathedral.

Sarah Perry has received huge critical acclaim for her recent Victorian novel, The Essex Serpent – not a 1970s horror scenario, but an intelligent exploration of late Victorian society and its surprisingly modern characteristics.

Holly Müller from Brecon has made an impressive debut with My Own Dear Brother, a novel set in wartime Austria and partly drawing on the experiences of her own Austrian family.
