Hundreds of nurses and midwives are expected to join a demonstration in London later today calling for a re-think of plans to scrap maintenance grants for students in England. The Treasury says abolishing the grants - known as bursaries - will allow many more nurses to be trained. But a survey by the Royal College of Nursing claims that two thirds of nurses wouldn't have studied nursing if they'd had to take out a student loan. Leaving the EU would lead to more jobs, a "non-racist" immigration policy and allow the government to help the steel industry, Michael Gove has said. In a live Q&A on Sky News, the pro-Leave justice secretary urged voters to "take back control" from "Europe's elites". Speaking on the same programme on Thursday night, David Cameron conceded that immigration is an issue of concern in the EU referendum campaign but insisted it can be managed if the UK remains in the EU and that his pledge to cut immigration below 100,000 can be achieved within the EU. Iraqi forces made progress on Friday in their assault on Fallujah, moving into a southern neighbourhood of the so-called Islamic State group's bastion. The Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshiyar Zebari has said the city is a "tough nut to crack鈥�, and the Iraqi army is facing fierce resistance as it attempts to recapture Fallujah from the so-called Islamic State Group. The city's been held by IS militants since 2014. We have been speaking to Ambassador James Jeffrey, fellow at the Washington institute where he focuses on U.S. regional, diplomatic, and military strategy, as well as Iraq and Iran.

Fifty thousand civilians are reckoned to be trapped in the city of Fallujah. Under siege not only by so-called Islamic State but over the past two weeks by the ring of Iraqi government forces encircling the city. Cheryl James, an 18 year old soldier undergoing training at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey, was found dead more than twenty years ago. An inquest into her death at the time returned an open verdict. Yesterday, the Coroner, Brian Barker QC, criticised the culture at Deepcut and the treatment of trainees. He said the general culture of the base fell below the standard expected, adding that the "haphazard provision of welfare support was insufficient". She died, according to the Coroner, by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Speaking live on the programme is General Sir Nick Carter, Chief of the General Staff 鈥� the professional head of the British Army.
