The Story of Life and Death

Singer and broadcaster Mara Carlyle joins Stuart with songs telling stories about death, including the poignant Flirted With You All My Life by Vic Chesnutt.

Stuart is joined by the singer and broadcaster Mara Carlyle. Following on from an interview with The High Llamas who's latest album was inspired by a story overheard in the streets of Peckham in the Freak Zone last week, Mara was asked to bring examples of great stories in song and she chose to bring in a selection of songs about death. And what greater story than the story of life and death. Featuring Nico Muhly's dark song about a girl who's bones are made into a violin and the Appalachian hoedown 'Oh Death'.
