Popstar turned song writer Paul Anka was on holiday in France, and a song he heard on TV triggered his imagination.

So for the majestic sum of one dollar, he negotiated the rights to produce his own version.

Inspiration came in the middle of the night.

He modified the tune, crafted the lyrics, and his instinct told him he was onto something massive. Within four hours he had written a hit, and at 5am he phoned the owner of the only voice he鈥檇 ever had in mind for the song聽 My Way

Today would have been Frank Sinatra鈥檚 hundredth birthday.. Sinatra was both a purist and a perfectionist in his approach to music. He didn鈥檛 like it when producers meddled with technology.聽 In real life, doing it 鈥渉is way鈥� meant that the music had to be authentic 鈥� a live sound, a top- class orchestra and no overdubbing.聽

But despite Paul Anka鈥檚 creative input and the song鈥檚 global success, Sinatra himself had no affection for 鈥淢y Way鈥�. In fact his daughter claimed he thought it was too self-indulgent. And while it is a perennial choice for funerals and gravestones, Sinatra himself chose a less egocentric hit for his own epitaph 鈥� 鈥淭he Best Is Yet To Come.鈥�

Lord, however today unfolds, may we acknowledge Your ways rather than relying on our own limited understanding of the world. By the power and grace of your Holy Spirit within us, may we live so that when the end is near and the final curtain is drawn, we shall have too few regrets to mention, and a knowledge that the best is yet to come.
