Pennie Latin travels to Perthshire and visits a secret garden owned by leading chef Andrew Fairlie.
Pennie Latin gets brought into the fold by two Michelin star Chef Andrew Fairlie. She makes her way to his top secret garden in Perth-shire. Here the word perfection doesn't go far enough, not a brown leaf, nor a weed in sight; failing plants need not apply. This immaculate garden in Perthshire is a place of inspiration, creativity and learning for Andrew's staff. The fruit, veg and herbs here are being carefully nurtured and selected to be put into dishes served in his top restaurant at Gleneagles. After a tour of the garden, Pennie gets to watch lunch being created with the fresh ingredients. Also Dan visits a garden in Tullibody that's successfully promoting healthy living through growing veg as a community.

Having had a few days away, my blog this week will be short. Thankfully for some!

I happened to watch Gardeners World last week. 听For some reason I have missed quite a few lately so haven鈥檛 really seen how the vegetables were fairing with Monty. 听I am glad I did see it as Monty was bemoaning the poor summer and the effects he was experiencing; so it's not just up here in Inverness then! 听He was particularly unhappy with the tomato crop, being poor in number and flavour. 听I think I beat him in the quantity, but I sure am in the same boat with the flavour. 听With no higher temperatures or more sun on the horizon, I think I will cut my losses and make my usual tasty chutney. 听Perhaps I will put the recipe in my next blog鈥听
One thing Monty was doing was sowing some turnips so that he could harvest small but sweet baby turnips later on. 听After hearing how he would eat them 鈥 cooked in butter 鈥 I can鈥檛 resist myself, so this will be my last sowing of the year.
听
I continue to harvest some great cauliflowers, kale, spring onions, (I purposefully left a load of these in to become big bulbs 鈥 delicious in omelettes), radishes and cabbages. I have so many sweet peas that I am struggling to find vases for them, but what a great perfume in the house. Finally, my gladioli are starting to flower.

Well, back to dodging the showers; my, how the weeds have grown the last few days! 听I am not so bothered about them now 鈥 I am just looking forward to a week in sunny Portugal.听
