But the Assembly has already debated the issue four times and rejected it each time.

That's led to some saying it's a waste of time debating the issue. Others say if gay people can be married in the rest of the UK they should be able to do the same here.

Earlier this month nine police officers were hurt during trouble after an anti interment parade in Belfast.

A group of bishops, priests and rabbis have given their support for plans to change the law to allow assisted dying in the UK for the first time.

In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, they say helping terminally ill people to die should be viewed simply as enabling them to "gracefully hand back" their lives to God.
