Good morning. Three years ago - in 2012 - our daughter was diagnosed with a serious medical condition. We were told by the consultant in no uncertain terms how precarious things were. 鈥20% of sufferers die from this鈥, he warned us. Nevertheless, she was young, and we had caught it early, so the prognosis was good.
We went home. I read everything I could lay my hands on, and felt sure that things would be fine. No one could have foreseen at that point how bad things were to become. Intensive treatments, and multiple hospitalisations were to follow. We were trained in medical procedures, and we became like nurses 鈥 offering round the clock care at home.
Then, this time last year, she was hospitalised again. She remained there for seven and a half months. Since February this year she has been home, and although it has been touch and go as to whether she could stay out of hospital, she has slowly made progress. She looked at me a couple of weeks ago and said in her matter of fact way, 鈥淭his time last year I couldn鈥檛 imagine I would still be alive.鈥澨 It is at once terrifying and amazing to hear your child say such a thing. Through this, faith has been the only thing to keep us strong. We have never lost hope in the Mercy and Power of God, and have held to the Qur鈥檃nic verse, 鈥淕od will not place a burden on any soul greater than it can bear.鈥
Our Lord 鈥 only You do we worship, and only You do we ask for help. We entrust our affairs to You. We seek help in Your eternal Grace. Guide us through the trials and tribulations which You judge are right for us, and grant us patience and resilience in the face of adversity. Ameen
