Digging The Past
The application of science and technology on archaeological digs is yielding much more聽detailed information聽about our history and culture. Hi-tech surveys and聽geophysics are combining to provide new insights into how our ancestors lived their lives .
In Science Caf茅 this week, Adam Walton learns more about the techniques used on three very different聽聽archaeological聽sites in North Wales.聽 The first is聽in the grounds of Buckley Elfed High School in Flintshire, where archaeologists from Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust, supported by Cadw, are excavating a former pottery site.聽Pupils at the school聽are actively involved in the dig - and the school will get to keep many of the finds.
The Hen Caerwys site is a far more complex proposition, where painstaking, traditional surveying has played an important role. And reporter Alys Lewis visits聽 the ancient site of Bryn Celli Ddu,聽on Anglesey. It's been described as one of the finest passage tombs in Wales聽and is a popular tourist attraction.
