Aberfeldy Tweed
Dougie is in Aberfeldy which has been producing Tweeds for Highland Estates for over a century. But traditional Tweeds are now getting a modern twist. Artist, Ryan Hannigan is marrying traditional Tweeds with bold, modern design.
Bioblitz
Sarah and son Robbie join naturalist, Nick Baker and the Boat of Garten Wildlife Group at Milton Loch, for a three hour Bioblitz – part of the Cairngorm Nature Festival. A Bioblitz is a biological survey that uses the general public to record all the living species within a designated area over a limited time.
Land Reform 1 – The issues
Land reform is high on the political agenda at the moment with lots of debate and new legislation in the pipeline. One particularly controversial aspect is community ownership of land. Euan investigates the pros and cons.
Land reform 2 - The Gigha experience
For many years the small island of Gigha was like much of rural Scotland, owned and run by a single landowner or laird. The islanders stayed while owners came and went. But in 2001 the second owner in a row went bust and the island was up for sale once more. But this time, instead of waiting for a new owner, the islanders took the matter into their own hands and decided to buy their own island. They describe the experience of the last 14 years as landowners.
The Food Van
Nick and Dougie take the Landward Food Van to Aberdeen to tickle the taste buds of the folk of the Granite City. This week they go foraging for wild garlic and nettles near Stonehaven before cooking-up a Spring Greens pesto and pasta.
