Stargazing

This week, to co-incide with 成人快手 Stargazing Live, Adam Walton explores astronomy, including the forthcoming solar eclipse. We hear from astronomers in North Wales, and about the importance of preserving our "dark sky" sites.

The fifth annual Stargazing Live takes to our screens this week, and the big focus this year will be the solar eclipse on Friday (20th March). It'll be a rare chance to see a near total eclipse in the UK. We hear from Stargazing series producer Paul King who outlines some of the highlights we can expect from this year's programmes, which will be 聽hosted once again by Dara O'Briain and Brian Cox from Jodrell Bank.

Aberystwyth University are following the solar eclipse, and several students will be "tracking" its progress from Svalbard and a specially equipped aircraft. Adam chats to Dr Huw Morgan and Nathalia Alzate about the scientific opportunities that occur during an eclipse.

We join members of North Wales Astronomy Society on one of their observing nights near Colwyn Bay. The clear skies bring a good turnout and a wide range of telescopes and observing equipment.

Having a clear, dark sky is important if you want to see the full wonder of the night sky, and Adam hears from Allan Trow of Dark Sky Wales about the importance of preserving and promoting "dark sky sites".
