Tony Blackburn explores the great soul city of Philadelphia, with its lush arrangements and doo-wop inspired vocals.

Tony Blackburn presents this series of programmes concentrating on three great Soul Cities of America - Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia. The driving force in Tony's life has been soul music and these programmes will concentrate on artists who were either born or lived in these cities or who recorded most of their successful material there. The three cities have spawned very different soul styles: Chicago gospel-tinged soft soul with horns and strings, Detroit with its hand claps and powerful bass lines of the famous Motown sound, and Philly with lush arrangements and doo-wop inspired vocals.
