Africa 70
Johnnie Walker hears 70s memories from Tony Allen, Lagos-born drummer and pioneer of the afrobeat movement.
Johnnie Walker celebrates the decade of T. Rex, Talking Heads and Tangerine Dream.
This week Tony Allen, drummer and pioneer of the Afrobeat movement and genre, remembers the decade in the My 70s feature. Born in Lagos, Nigeria he went on to work with Fela Kuti in the group Africa '70, and created a whole new style of music with him. He has also been described by Brian Eno as "perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived". In the programme he'll remember working with Ginger Baker of Cream in the decade and introduce a couple of his favourite Afrobeat tracks.
Also on the show, Johnnie will revisit a moment from the decade courtesy of the 成人快手 archive and another classic seven-inch single will be added into Johnnie's Jukebox.
