Crucial Vinyl: James Brown's Get on the Good Foot

The Don's Crucial Vinyl, an album that has shaped his musical taste, is James Brown's 1972 release Get on the Good Foot.

Each week Don selects a piece of Crucial Vinyl (an album that has shaped his musical taste and helped make him who he is). He features three tracks from it and explains why it means so much to him.

This week he picks James Brown's 1972 release Get on the Good Foot.

Don says, "James Brown had already grabbed my attention with cuts like 'Say it Loud I'm Black and I Proud' released during the height of civil rights movement of the late 60s.

To a degree, by 1972, the social/political climate had chilled; brothers were starting to party, and I was sporting an Angela Davis style afro. And, with titles like I Got a Bag of My Own', The Whole World Needs Liberation and Get on the Good Foot, it was James Brown who provided the soundtrack to these transitional times."

As ever, Don's other selections cross time, space and genre.
