The Sound of Style: 1965-1973

Lauren Laverne celebrates the Sound of Style, looking at music and fashion since the 1960s, and chats to ex-Slits guitarist Viv Albertine.

We celebrate the launch of The Sound of Style season, a collaboration between 成人快手 Four and 6 Music looking at the love affair and inextricably linked relationship between fashion and music since the 1960s. 成人快手 Four's three-part series, Oh You Pretty Things, starts tonight at 9pm. It's narrated by Lauren Laverne and each episode is sound-tracked by a 6 Music presenter, bringing their music expertise to showcase the social history, sounds and looks of the period. Don Letts has sound-tracked episode one.

So all day on the station, we're only playing music from year '65 to '73 - as sound-tracked in the first episode. Plus we're talking to non-other than The Slits' guitarist Viv Albertine. A key icon of fashion on the punk scene, and regular at Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm McLaren's shop Sex. she'll tell us all about her fashion fails and tribulations, as well as exploring how closely linked it is with the musical world.

On each Wednesday the series airs, 6 Music will be playing music across the shows reflecting the years covered in that evening's programme, so today will be styling their music and chat around the 1960s and early 1970s. The shows will be playing the tracks that Don has sound-tracked, plus other gems from this era, and listeners will hear Don at the top of each show talking about his music choices.

Plus, Lauren brings you a special The Sound Of Style Memory Tapes and is joined by Viv Albertine to bring us a fashion inspired mix of music that has inspired her.
