Japan Marvelous Drummers provide the beats for the final Edinburgh Nights, with an extract from their show which fuses dance, humour and theatrics to the rhythm of traditional Japanese instruments including the Koto (Japanese harp) and Shinobue (Japanese bamboo flute).

Having performed in more than 20 countries, including the United States, India, Taiwan, Brazil and Korea,Ìý2014 marks their first time performing in Edinburgh.

Award-winning comedian and actor Omid Djalili is back in Edinburgh, but this year he’s swapped stand-up for the Book Festival. In his memoir Hopeful: An Autobiography, Djalili explores his unconventional childhood growing up in his parents’ guesthouse for visiting Iranians in London.

Djalili is no stranger to the city of festivals - his big break in stand-up was at the Fringe in 1995 with Short, Fat Kebab Shop Owner’s Son. ÌýHe has since gone on to win the Time Out Award for Best Stand-up Comedian,Ìýfront The Omid Djalili Show on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One andÌýstar in numerous Hollywood films such as Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and The Mummy.

Olivia Poulet is starring in a revival of Mark Ravenhill’s Product at the Assembly Hall, a satire on the shady underbelly of the film industry where she plays a producer desperately pitching to a film actress. First performed at the Traverse in 2005, Product is already scheduled for a London transfer to The Arcola next May.

Poulet, who is most familiar to audiences for her roles in The Thick of It and Sherlock, returns to Edinburgh for the first time in 5 years having previously taken her own work –ÌýThe Bird Flu DiariesÌýandÌýThe Queef of TerenceÌý–Ìýto the Fringe.

Acclaimed actor and writer Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Amadeus) is one of the UK’s most treasured performers. This year the festival veteran returns to the Edinburgh stage with Juvenalia, his hysterical examination of Roman humour and values.

Originally performed by the actor in the 70s, Callow’s show explores the life of Roman poet Juvenal and his scathing, satirical writings on love, marriage, sex and death. Highlighting our eternal fascination with moral decline, Callow hilariously points out the similarities between Rome AD 100 and our modern world.
