Shaun kicks off Radio Legends Week with Tony Blackburn joining him to chat about his career behind the microphone.

It's Radio Legends Week as Shaun spends a week celebrating the legends of the medium. We kick off Monday with Tony Blackburn joining to chat about his career behind the microphone.

Tony Blackburn was the first DJ to launch and broadcast on 成人快手 Radio 1 in 1967 , and presented the Radio 1 breakfast Show until 1973. He began his career as a singer, releasing 14 singles.

Blackburn's broadcasting career was kick-started when he spotted an advert DJs, for what was to be the pirate station Radio Caroline. In July 1964 he began DJing on the three-masted cargo schooner, Mi Amigo, anchored three-and-a-half miles off the Essex coast. He has won over 30 awards including, 'Best Breakfast Show' (Contemporary Music) by Sony Radio Awards in 1993. He recently picked up a special honour at The Radio Academy Awards, marking his 50 years on the airwaves. It is the second time he has received the academy's Gold Award- having originally been honoured on his silver anniversary in 1989.
