Louise White asks: Should local parks be a council priority?
TOPIC 1: FRACKING
New research by the British Geological Survey estimates there are 80 trillion cubic feet of shale gas and six billion barrels of oil in central Scotland. It could provide enough gas to meet Scotland's needs for the next fifty years and a wave of exploratory drilling is looming to establish its commercial viability. The shale resources are more modest than originally thought and anti-fracking campaigners have welcomed the news.

TOPIC 2: PARKS
A report from the Heritage Lottery Fund shows a growing risk to parks in Scotland, with councils having to make budget cuts. It predicts that the quality and condition of many parks could dramatically decline if action is not taken. As part of the research, an Ipsos MORI survey also showed that 1 in 10 people across the UK use, visit, or pass through their local park almost every day.
