Crucial Vinyl: Lou Reed's Transformer
As his Crucial Vinyl, an album that has moved him and made him who he is, Don features Lou Reed's 1972 classic Transformer.
Each week Don selects a piece of 'Crucial Vinyl', a classic album that has moved him and helped to shape his musical taste. This week he picks another album that was released in 1972, when he was 16.
Lou Reed's 1972 classic Transformer was Lou's second solo album following the break-up of the Velvet Underground. It elevated him from cult hero to big star.
Recorded in London, produced by David Bowie and guitarist Mick Ronson and sporting an iconic Mick Rock monochrome portrait of Reed on the cover, Transformer contains Vicious, Perfect Day, Walk on the Wild Side and Satellite of Love.
It remains as influential today as it was on Don's generation and friends, some of whom went on to form punk bands.
