Karyn
Clare English hears from people who live with someone affected by mental health problems. Kayrn discusses the reality of living with her mother's bipolar disorder.
Mental illness affects 1 in 4 of us and statistics tell us that 2 people will take their own lives every day in Scotland alone. Imagine how many wives, mothers, fathers, daughters, grandparents, friends, and colleagues will be affected by that trauma- they're the ones trying to care for, love and support someone close to them who's in a desperate mental state.
Clare English looks at 'The Ripple effect' of mental illness and hears Kayrn's story; she has grown up in the shadow of her mother's bi-polar disorder; living daily with her mood swings; negotiating her unpredictable behaviour and constantly worrying about the possibility of another suicide attempt. Clare finds out how she faces these immense challenges without her own mental health suffering and also how she keeps on loving her mum when she gives nothing back emotionally.
