Calls are being made for a "symbolic change" to the description of religious assemblies in some schools.
The Church of Scotland and the Scottish Humanist Society are to tell MSPs the title "religious observance" in non-denominational schools is outdated.
They said changing the legal definition to "time for reflection" could ease the concerns of parents who withdraw their children from such events.

In England, the ruling body of rugby union wants to remove the competitive edge of the sport for some children to encourage more to take part.
Changes by one club, mean there will be no overall winners or trophies for those aged six to 11 competing in tournaments.
Teams will also be mixed ability and must be weakened if winning too easily.
