Whitehead Railway Station
It鈥檚 full steam ahead in County Antrim with the opening of the new Whitehead Railway Station. The station was built by the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland, and is a replica of a 19th Century station built by renowned architect Charles Lanyon. Dennis Grimshaw is the vice chairman of the society who'll tell us about the project alongside local historian聽Charles Friel. For more information on the station visit:
Turnip House
Anne Marie visits County Down and meets Elaine and John McCombe at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. They own the Turnip House, once a thriving farm and lively place;聽and the couple聽are currently working on restoring the building to its former glory. Broighter Gold Hoard
In 1986 Tom Nicholl and James Morrow were ploughing a field near Limavady and struck gold when they hit buried treasure. The two men found an impressive collection of Celtic Gold dating back to the early Iron Age. On Thursday 7th November聽local historian Jim Hunter will give a talk on the Broighter Gold Hoard, and he'll chat to us about this great find.
Schooner Result
Maritime enthusiast Christopher Kenny from Carrickfergus聽is making a splash with his passion for the locally built Schooner Result. The vessel was the last sailing ship built at Carrickfergus ship yard, and Christopher recently set up an appreciation society. Anne Marie met the 15-year-old at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum where the ship is stationed.
Newry Comic Book
A County Down town has gone back in time with the help of Jack, Tez and Pak, 3 time travelling comic book characters. The colourful comic has been commissioned to educate children about the history of Newry. It coincides with Newry and Mourne Museum and Declan Carroll is the education officer there, John Farrelly is the illustrator, and they'll talk to us about the new publication.
