Laura Jurd brings her trumpet to the Woman's Hour studio for a spot of jazz improvisation. Sally Becker explains why she has refused chemotherapy and discusses the potential impact of her decision. The TUC says that today is Equal Pay Day and the period from now until the end of the year represents the fifteen per cent gender pay gap - so, what's being done to close it? Does adulthood begin at 25 - we hear about the scientific evidence which may suggest it does. And, sometimes playful, other times rather darker - we explore the art of flirting in Shakespeare.

Sally Becker on why she refused chemotherapy
Sally Becker is probably best known as thefor the charity work she did in the 1990s to save hundreds of lives in Bosnia. Seven months ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Sally is now refusing all further treatment because she says that ‘the gain isn’t worth the pain’. She has already been awarded the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition and the Worshipful Company of Musician's jazz award, and she is only 22. Does adulthood now being at 25?
Next year new guidance for psychologists will be introduced which effectively extends the adolescent period to the age of 25. This is a sign that coming of age has transformed in recent decades. Compared to previous generations, today young people are encouraged to stay in education longer, they are having children later and - be it through choice or financial necessity - increasing numbers are living with their parents. So is 25 the new cut off point for adulthood? Jenni talks to Consultant Child and Educational Psychologist Laverne Antrobus and 23 year old Esther Hayden.Time to close the gender pay gap?
According to the TUC, today is Equal Pay Day, the point in the year on which a woman in full-time employment effectively stops earning. They say that women are paid 15% less and that in some areas the picture is far worse. So what needs to happen to close the gender pay gap? And is it time for mandatory pay audits? Jenni talks to Nicola Smith, Head of Economics and Social Affairs at the TUC and she’s joined by Maria Miller, the Minister for Women and Equalities to discuss what the government is doing to promote equality in the workplace.
