Who's the Mammy?

Mum, mither, maw, mammy. The Culture Cafe hears about typical days in the lives of mothers from as far afield as Stornoway and Dumfries, Aberdeenshire and Lochwinnoch.

Rural and urban, young and old, working and stay-at-home, single and adoptive...Who's the Mammy? celebrates all shades of motherhood across Scotland, and raises a glass to mums everywhere in this, the week of Mother's Day.

With mothers from Aberdeenshire and Inverness to Dumfries and Dundee, Who's the Mammy? provides a snapshot of modern Scottish motherhood. Hear from a supermum with four kids and a high flying business, to a single mother sharing her bedroom; from the mother of a special needs son to the mother of triplet toddlers; and from a new mother and a gay mother - we hear what Scottish women really think and feel about motherhood.

Is being a mammy all it's cracked up to be? Do the rewards outweigh the pressures, or is the effort of living up to supermum stereotypes sometimes simply too much? Is it better to be a working mum, or the stay-at-home species? Is it really possible to have a decent work/life balance, and does being a mum mean putting your own needs way down the pecking order?

Or do the sheer joys and highs of being a mother simply outshine the dirty nappies, terrible twos, troublesome teenagers, the demented juggling act and mum's taxi service?

With mum material recorded and gathered by trainee reporters from community radio stations, colleges, universities and 成人快手 Scotland's apprentice scheme - Who's The Mammy? tells it how it really is for modern mothers.
