Cora is forced to confront her demons and explain herself to Ava, but will Ava forgive her mother as they rake up the past? Tanya seeks out Max as the truth of her actions emerges.
Tanya reveals to Ava they’re family. Upset, Cora returns home. Cora tells Patrick what’s happened. Patrick confesses he told Tanya about Ava. Though annoyed, Cora opens up: Ava’s father never knew she existed; she was secretly shipped off to a mother-and-baby home; all she had to remember Ava by was some beads, which she lost. Cora claims she isn’t interested in seeing Ava; Patrick thinks she’s selfish. Back at the Brannings’, Ava asks Tanya if she would’ve gone back if Ava hadn’t found her purse. Tanya can’t answer. Ava feels she’s a disappointment. Having had second thoughts, Cora returns. She talks to Ava, but struggles to open-up emotionally. Hurt and rejected, Ava leaves. Cora’s left alone, crying; Ava’s supposedly-lost beads in hand.
Joey confesses to Lauren that Derek didn’t punch him. Derek tells Lauren he knows about her and Joey. He wants Joey to meet him. Lauren’s scared. Joey persuades Alice to move out of the Butchers’. Looking for Joey, Lauren heads to the Vic. She has a drink and ends up fighting with Lucy. Joey enters and breaks it up. Lucy gives Lauren an ultimatum: her friends or him. Lauren chooses Joey, before explaining to Joey that Derek knows about them and wants to see him. Joey persuades a terrified Lauren to meet him in half an hour; they’re going to leave Walford together. Joey steals Derek’s car keys. Lauren tries to talk to Tanya, but Tanya’s pre-occupied with Ava. Joey and Lauren sneak off to meet. As Lauren drives them away, Joey shouts abuse at an enraged Derek. Derek returns home to find Alice packed and ready to leave. Back in the car, Joey and Lauren are messing around. She takes her eyes off the road. The car slams through a shop window.
