Clare Teal celebrates 50 years of the big bands at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, bands that included Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton and Chris Barber.
Clare Teal takes a look back over the many big bands that have appeared at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon over its 50 year history. The Bands of Duke Ellington and Count Basie appeared there in the first year of the halls existence, swiftly followed by Stan Kenton, Sam Donahue leading the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Buddy Rich.
