Mike Harding presents a special edition of his folk and acoustic programme dedicated to one of the world's greatest traditional music groups: The Chieftains.

As they mark their 50th anniversary, band leader Paddy Moloney joins Mike for the entire programme and talks us through the many and varied stages of their influential and innovative career.

The Chieftains, who have their roots in the Dublin folk orchestra Ceolt贸ir铆 Chualann, have released more than forty albums and have six Grammy Awards to their name. They have collaborated with a dazzling list of musical stars including Ry Cooder, Ricky Skaggs, Van Morrison, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones and Madonna.

Their latest album, Voice of Ages, has been produced by T-Bone Burnett and features guest spots by acts in the roots and alternative music worlds. Imelda May, The Civil Wars, Paolo Nutini, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Punch Brothers all do turns on the album.

As the band prepare for a UK tour, Paddy talks about the new album and the key moments of their long career, illustrated by plenty of musical highlights.
