Balwant Singh Rajoana

Should Balwant Singh Rajoana be released from prison? His death sentence has been put off while India's president considers an appeal from the Punjab state government.

Should Balwant Singh Rajoana now be released from prison?

If you're wondering why your Facebook timeline has filled up with orange squares over the last 24 hours its part of a campaign by some Sikhs to stop the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana.

He's been on death row and he was due to hang on saturday for the murder of the former chief minister of Punjab, Beant Singh. But it's now been put off while the country's president considers an appeal from the Punjab state government.

What do you think should happen? To many, Beant Singh was responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Sikhs, killed under the guise of security crackdowns in Punjab.

But 16 innocent people died in the suicide bomb plot that killed him and which Balwant Singh Rajoana was a part of.

Balwant is far from safe, the appeal on his behalf could be turned and he could still hang but do you think he's served enough time? His guilt isn't in doubt, he's admitted what he did, but do you think the Indian Government should listen to protests in Punjab and here and commute his death sentence and let him go?
