The Culture Cafe counts down to Burns Night and gets an insight into the thoughts of Rabbie from unedited personal journals, plus find out why Dumfries is the place to be.
On the Culture Caf茅 we're counting down to Burns Night, with a celebration of our national Bard. We find out how one of his old haunts, the Globe Inn in Dumfries, is still the place to be, and why the town is set to be the focal point of events.
We'll be getting up close and personal, as we hear Burns' inner thoughts recorded in personal journals that have never been edited before. Nigel Leask from the University of Glasgow, who is working on Editing Robert Burns for the 21st Century, tells us what it has been like being immersed in Burns' own handwriting and thoughts.
And we find out what our Scottish national poet has in common with some other national poets from far off lands...Dr Bashabi Fraser introduces us to Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, and Nosheena Mobarik introduces us to Pakistan's national bard, Alamma Iqbal. They tell us what these poets and philosophers have in common, and why they're still so loved and celebrated.
As well as all that, we have readings from the 成人快手 Scotland Robert Burns site, which has 66 of Scotland's biggest names reading Burns poems.
