The best in folk, roots and acoustic music, including a chat with James Fagan and Damien Barber about a new production of Peter Bellamy's classic folk opera The Transports.
Mike Harding presents an hour of the best in folk, roots and acoustic music. On tonight's show, musicians James Fagan and Damien Barber discuss their roles in a new production of the late Peter Bellamy's classic folk opera, The Transports.
The concert will form part of this year's Sidmouth Folk Week festival, and marks the 20th anniversary of Bellamy's untimely death.
The Transports tells the true story of two young convicts, Henry and Susannah, and their journey from Norfolk to Australia. Originally released in 1977, the classic collection of songs written by Bellamy was arranged by Dolly Collins and featured some of the most important performers in the 1970s British folk revival: Mike and Norma Waterson, Nic Jones, June Tabor, Martin Carthy and AL Lloyd.
The 2011 production sees original cast member Martin Carthy joined by present-day folk luminaries including Eliza Carthy, Jim Moray, Jackie Oates and Jim Causley.
