CONCERT:
Cure, recorded at Shepherd's Bush Empire, 1997.
Out of all the bands that emerged in the immediate aftermath of punk rock in the late '70s, few were as enduring and popular as the Cure.
The band was led through numerous incarnations by guitarist/vocalist Robert Smith.
It all started in 1976 as 'Easy Cure' was formed by Robert Smith (vocals, guitar) along with schoolmates Michael Dempsey (bass), Lol Tolhurst (drums) and local guitar hero Porl Thompson.
In 1978 the 'Easy' was dropped, along with Porl, and an eager trio now known simply as The Cure were quickly signed to Chris Parry's new Fiction label.
SESSIONS:
Eno & the Winkies, a session recorded for John Peel on 27th June 1975.
The Winkies were formed by Canadian-born Philp Rambow.
They were a combination of pub rock with glam rock clothing.
Brian Eno, who at the time was finishing his debut album, noticed The Winkies.
In 1974, he took them as his backing band on his first and only solo tour.
The Low Anthem, a session recorded for 6 Music on 12 April this year
The Low Anthem formed in 2006.
They are from Rhode Island.
The band is playing Glastonbury and a UK tour is taking place in August.
They have released 4 albums to date.
