Audrey Niffenegger, Sharron Kraus, Susan Wicks, Ira Lightman
Presented by Ian McMillan. Includes Audrey Niffenegger with a special commission; songwriter and philosopher Sharron Kraus with new folk music; Ira Lightman on haikus in WikiLeaks.
Ian McMillan presents Radio 3's celebration of the best writing and performance of all kinds. This week, the best-selling writer of 'The Time Traveler's Wife' Audrey Niffenegger reads a brand new Verb commission. Her latest book is a graphic novel and, as she explains to Ian, she's passionate about the form and about the bookiness of books in general. And, the songwriter, musician, philosopher Sharron Kraus performs work from her new album which mixes the folk traditions of England and Appalachia and discusses the art of songwriting. Poets Susan Wicks and Catherine Smith describe the treasures they found in the store-rooms of the Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery when they and other writers and artists were invited to be inspired for a local project. And, poet, mathematician and lover of the avant garde Ira Lightman assesses haikus found in the Wikileaks cables. They may be haiku in a mathematical sense but are they spiritually true to the form?
