Craig Armstrong on orchestral movie soundtracks and Misha Aster unearthing the Nazi background of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. And is The X-Factor part of our musical fabric?
Many of the most recognisable pieces of orchestral music comes from the movies, but would people still listen to the same compositions if it wasn't on the silver screen? Ahead of The 成人快手 SSO celebrating the soundtrack to super heroes in its annual Christmas film festival, composer and musician Craig Armstrong talks to Stephen Duffy about movie soundtracks being many peoples first insight into orchestral music.

In 1933 the Nazi propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbels, assumed control of the orchestra which for the next 12 years provided the soundtrack to The Third Reich. Now historian, Misha Aster reveals for the first time the true history of The Reich's Orchestra - its performances for the Nazi party and why we will forever associate Wagner's music with The Nuremburg Rallies
Love it or loathe it, The X Factor is the talk of family homes across Scotland each Saturday night. Is it time that we accept TV singing contents are part of our modern musical culture and forget the snobbery of admitting to liking them?
