The stories behind the day's headlines with Kirsty Wark in London and Emily Maitlis in Washington. Will UK-France military cooperation make citizens safer and save money?

David Cameron has said new treaties on defence and nuclear co-operation with France marked a "new chapter" in a long history of defence co-operation. Speaking alongside French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the UK PM said it would make both countries' citizens safer and would save money. We'll discuss if the deal is a challenge to our sovereignty and if it will work.

As American voters go to the polls, Peter Marshall reports from the key swing state of Pennsylvania and Emily Maitlis speaks to the satirist PJ O'Rourke.
