Curing Pakistani Cricket
Pakistan's cricket team are playing their home series on UK soil due to terrorism threats. Over the last decade they've been hitting the headlines, but for the wrong reasons. Why?
In the final of the 1992 Cricket World Cup he took the catch that won it for Pakistan. Now television commentator Ramiz Raja asks the thorny question of what's gone wrong with Pakistan's Cricket. Along with the former captain, Imran Khan, and team mates Wasim Akram, and Aamir Sohail during the sides glory days, he looks back at how Pakistani cricketers have gone from World winners to sinners. Drawing on the experience of past players like Asif Iqbal and gathering the thoughts of key journalists he believes that Pakistan are very often unfairly targetted and branded 'cheats ' and often reported by the World media in a biased light.
However, is the structure of Pakistan cricket and the involvement of politicians, its biggest downfall? Are they alone damaging the games and players reputation? And what about the team - can they rise to the pinnacle of World Cricket again ...what's the best cure for Pakistan's cricket?'.
