Nucleus

Julian Joseph presents a concert given by the reformed band Nucleus at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, paying tribute to the late trumpeter and composer Ian Carr.

A tribute to the music of Ian Carr was recorded in February 2010 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and Jazz Line -Up was there to capture the concert. This week Julian Joseph introduces the reformed iconic band Nucleus that features some founder members with John Marshall (Drums) and Chris Batchelor taking the trumpet line on many of the tracks.

This set recalls the varied and unique styles that Ian Carr brought to Jazz in the UK
The full line-up is: Rob Statham, Chris Batchelor, Nic France, Phil Todd, Mark Wood and Tim Whitehead and Geoff Castle and John Marshall.

Nucleus released 12 albums either under the Nucleus or Ian Carr name between 1970 and 1980 and toured extensively worldwide. Carr wrote all the music for three of these albums ("Solar Plexus", "Labyrinth" and "Old Heartland" of which the first two received bursaries from the Arts Council of Great Britain) and he wrote eight of the nine tracks on "Out of the Long Dark".
